Calman House Foundation - About Us

A Message From Our Founder

Calman House Header ImageRaised in a no-nonsense household focused on hard work and self-reliance, I lived the American Dream until 2017, when my life took an unexpected turn. I contracted a severe illness that resulted in the bilateral amputation of my legs, and my wife and I parted ways. Faced with these challenging circumstances, I found myself alone and without support. With the help of my biological family, I was given a place to stay as I underwent surgeries, physical recovery, and the mental adjustment necessary to begin the rebuilding of my life. Reflecting on this period, I realized that the key to my successful recovery was the availability of a nonjudgmental, safe living environment. As a result, I founded Calman House to offer others a sanctuary for recovery and rebuilding. Calman is the Gaelic word for "Dove," which holds a personal significance, as it symbolizes peace and tranquility, which was critical during my recovery. I hope Calman House becomes a foundation for others to rebuild their lives.
